Message from Pastor Valerie

Dear Friends,

We have officially entered the season of Advent as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord. Tonight, you are invited to the Advent soup and sandwich supper at 5:30 pm, followed by Advent worship at 6:30 pm. All three Advent Wednesday worships are in person only opportunities, so we hope you can come and join us. Our mediations for each evening are from Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Tonight’s topic is ‘Waiting.’

Importantly, the last day to order poinsettias is this coming Sunday, December 4. The order form is available on the table by the office door in the entry.  If you are a livestream only person, please call the church office to place your order. We can take livestream only orders through the morning of Monday, December 5, by 10 am. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

We are working away on the Christmas Basket ministry. Thank you so much for your ongoing donations to the food baskets and the gift cards. If you are able to donate food for the baskets, we need pancake mix, canned tuna, peanut butter and jelly, boxed oatmeal packets, canned chicken breast meat and cake mixes and frosting. If you are intending to donate a gift card to be included in the baskets, we are suggesting gift cards from Walmart or Target. We will be distributing the baskets on Monday, December 19.

The Men of Peace are hosting a pancake breakfast this coming Sunday, December 4. Breakfast will be served one hour before worship and again following worship. We look forward to seeing you and enjoying breakfast and worship together!

Many of you responded to the “Building for the Future” campaign, and to date we have paid back the line of credit an estimated $16,000. As of now, we have approximately $40,000 being used on the line. I believe that in the next week or so, we will see this trend of generosity continue, as we not only meet our budget needs for the remainder of the year, but also lay that solid financial foundation as we begin a new ministry year in January. Thank you for all your generosity and your financial gifting and giving!

Butter Braid pick up is scheduled for Thursday, December 8, 10:00 am – noon, at the Preschool door.  For congregation members unable to pick up on Thursday, you may pick up on Sunday, December 11, in the kitchen after worship.

You are invited to the upcoming Holiday Events at Peace:

  • Advent Story and Craft Night welcomes all children 3 years old – 5th grade to join us for a fun—filled evening on December 7, 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Choir room.
  • Children’s Christmas program on Sunday, December 11, 10:00 am worship.  Come see the kids perform this year’s program “Hold on to Your Hat – It’s Christmas.” By Cathy Skogen-Soldner.
  • Following the Children’s Christmas program, we have arranged for a visit from Santa for the kids.  Each child can meet Santa and have a picture taken with him.
  • Peace Mini Boutique sale, Saturday, December 10, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and Sunday, December 11, 9:00 am – 12 pm. This is a great chance to buy some beautiful hand-crafted items for Christmas gifts.
  • CODA Concert at Peace Lutheran on Saturday, December 10, 7:00 pm.   Come an enjoy the music and holiday sounds with Malcolm Anderson and Scott Dorff.

I hope you have a good week!  See you on Sunday!

Take care… be safe… Pastor Valerie
