POWERFUL EARTHQUAKE STRIKES HAITI,
LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF RESPONDING

      A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the small island nation of Haiti on the evening of January 12, the worst earthquake to strike the region in more than 200 years. Tens of thousands are feared dead; the quake’s epicenter was located just 10 miles from the capital city of Port-au-Prince. "As the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, the people of Haiti will desperately need the help of the international community in the wake of this horrifying disaster," says Trevor Knoblich, LWR’s Program Coordinator for Emergency Response. "A large response will be needed to even begin helping the people of Haiti," he adds.

      If you would like to help, you can write a check of any amount to Peace Lutheran Church and write “Earthquake Relief” on the memo line. Peace will send these funds weekly to Lutheran World Relief to support their life-saving response. In the words of LWR president John Nunes, "We ask that you pray for the people of Haiti and for our local partners on the ground with whom we have lost contact. Lutheran World Relief will work expeditiously to put your prayers and gifts to work to save lives in Haiti."

In preparation for our 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2010-2011, the Council is seeking old bulletins, programs, class lists, baptism or confirmation certificates, keepsakes, photographs and any other archival material from Peace’s first 50 years. You can drop off anything you have at the church office anytime. Make sure that everything you’d like to receive back is clearly marked with your name so we can return it to you. (That includes marking the back of each photograph.)
